The route for the Maryland trial is as follows - head directly out the A1 carriageway to Banbridge before turning left for Castlewellan. Once into Castlewellan, take right and head down to Newcastle, then veer left towards Dundrum stopping at the picnic site at Murlough bay for refreshments. From Dundrum, head to Saintfield via Clough, Downpatrick and Killyleagh, before returning to Lisburn via Temple around lunchtime.

Cold and frosty start, Ronnie, Killyleagh boy and Stevie of the Colourful Language headed from Annahilt, (thanks for the bottles SW, left mine in the rush to get out.) Arrived in Lisburn hung around chatting, Big Davy, Darren and David and Paul arrived (Paul on his new bike) - lots of fancy summer bikes on show as the sun began to try and burn off some of the freezing fog.
The A group were called; Ronnie, Paul and the Bears went for it, the rest of us stared slack jawed as the most of the car part left, eventually at the very last minute we decided the B group would be too small and jumped on our bikes, hot persuit up the road, not good for the lungs, eventually caught the back of the group at the Hillsborough Roundabout, a gradual hill killed us and we slumped back forming a group of 7 with some Marylanders and Burning Birds. A nice ride from Banbridge across to Castlewellan, with SW 'probably' taking a couple of 30ies, only after others had made the jump, no sign of the B group until the tea stop and we jumped on there, about 40 bikes and a bit twitchy at times. Davy went off for a jimmy and for all I know is still in the portaloo outside Newcastle.
The pace upped as is traditional, in Killyleagh, and on to the rolling road to Saintfield, (saw Gary out doing a bit of the old secret training) group halfed by Saintfield, where I blew, SW stayed with it to the turn we took for Annahilt just outside Lisburn. Tough day for me, 80 miles at about 19.
How did the Sportivers get on...freezin...?
Just to add that the motorbike marshalls were great and thanks to Mland - what I'd do for an RS1100
Also saw peterj on the horseshoe and Hamilton who is now a Wheeler

Yes was in the car coming back from a walk with the kids in Donard, and saw an absolutely huge fast group-100+ @30mph++ coming down into Newcastle-impressive line of Dromara shirts at the front left, Ronnie looking like he was having to work reasonably hard but did have time for a quick smile'n wave! Think the Kaners idea of three groups was a good one, although with the weather I don't think it happened at their reliability. Looked to me like the fast was too fast for all but reasonably serious racers and the slow too slow, although currently I can just about walk having done my back in AGAIN so irrelevant to me. Wondered how long the Big group lasted -surely not all the way round? ? There were quite a few stragglers even at the point I saw it all, anyway respect to those who hung in there, looked fast and lairy, I would have joined the stragglers at the fist whiff of an incline!
