As you all should remember I struck a deal to get six or so members of our club First Aid Training and certificate, at a special rate, as part of a Quid Pro Quo. I need a number of voulenteers for the following;
Gilnahirk Primary School 1.30pm (suggest meeting earlier to set up) Saturday 12th April. Might last to 4pm depending on numbers and any additional fun events you can think to add as well as covering the basic badge requirements. If it is very wet we can do some activities indoors but unfortunately cannot ride the bikes in the hall but I’ll tell everyone to bring coats, a little rain won’t hurt!
Own or have regular use of a bicycle of a suitable size and a cycle helmet. Be able to mount and dismount properly. Understand the need for keeping the bicycle in a roadworthy condition, and how to do this. Be able to clean and oil a bicycle. Show how to pump up the tyres and how to mend a puncture. Understand the need for keeping a bicycle locked when leaving it unattended. Make a poster to promote road safety to pedestrians or cyclists. Understand the need for lights and reflective clothing. Discuss with your Leader or other Cub Scouts the safety measures necessary for riding in poor conditions. Under observation, in a safe place, go for a short ride to show that you can ride safely and confidently
FIRST AID TRAINING.
I would also like six or so names for First aid training. This will be over two nights, most likley a Tuesday, in a few weeks time. I will confirm later.

The provisional dates for the next first response training course are Tuesday 13th and 20th May starting ~6.45-9.30pm. I could probably let the cycling club have up to 3 places. Venue likely to be at Gilnahirk (Jack Britton Hall) but will confirm. Demand is high from our own leaders and we might try to run another course before the end of June if possible. Best wishes, David
So the dates are here. At the AGM a number of people said they would like to do this course. It should be repeated in June so three more could be trained then. Would those who want to do this please reply here, email me or text me ASAP. I need to know now for eiher date.
Trevor.
PS those who applied for the child protection, have now been vetted and we should be informed within the next week.

Last evening three of the club, Anne Maguire, Peter Swann and Trevor, spent a very enjoyable three or so hours on the first evening of our First Response Training along with 12 others from the scouting movement. Leaders Pamala and David first of all gave a talk about saftey and the actions you should take. DRAB or Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing. After some well received refreshments we spent the next hour praticising both solo and two person CPR on both adult and child mannequins. The evening ended at 9.45. We will return next Tuesday for the second part of the course. There will be another two night course held in June if anyone else would like to do the first aid training or on Saturday 24th of May there is a one day course. Please let me know asap if anyone would like to do this. Once again may thanks to David Bell for organising this for Dromara CC.

So last night Anne, Peter & I recieved our cerificates for completing The First Response fist aid training course. This can be renewed in a three hour evening session in three years time. I was last as usual, but just in time to practice the recovery position on Anne & Peter. The course whn on to 10.20pm as there was so much to cover, but it was well worth while and the three of us really enjoyed it. It is a shame so others from the club could not have joined us there. Once again a great thanks to Pamala & David for ruuning the course. David made no charge for the three Dromara members, even though the other twelve had to pay £7.50 each. We will have to get them something

Club members. At our AGM earlier this year Dromara CC agreed to supply at least six marshals to help out at The Mourne Triathlon. The event is on this Saturday. I have been asked to supply marshals for a number of road junctions between Castlewellan and Moneyslane. The road is to be closed to traffic and only local access will be allowed. Over 400 people are taking part. I have been told that we will be needed from 12 to 4 but 12.30 to 3.30 is more likely. Peter Swann is going to supply lunchs for those who help out. It would be good for those hoping to go to the East Tyrone Tour of the Sperrins on Sunday to help out on Saturday, although I know many of you will be riding in the circuit of Lough Neagh on Saturday. Please reply asap. Trevor
