I think we should be starting in Hillsborough. OK slight bias there. I do think it is a good idea to post routes to give people an idea of where they could cut off home, etc if they have something pressing later in the day. I wouldn't mind starting to post Saturday routes as well, although I would probably need to persuade Marcus and Ronnie on that one.

New member but shouldn't Dromara cycling club start in Dromara at the same time every Sun albeit with a poss. collection along the way? Having said that its just as easy for me to start in Dromore or Hills or even Banbridge (as that's where I live) Anyway I'm a new member so I'll be going with the flow. As long as its posted a couple of days before hand or each month in advance it probably doesn't matter. Look forward to Sun 12 0930 in Dromara??

Thank you for your comments. All sunday runs will start in dromara but at the earlier time of 9.30. Hillsborough will be on the rota approx once a month. I will also try to include any other leisure events that we would go to as a club. In busy months like may and august that would be nearly every week. I know clear as mud as usual.

Trevor,
I'm quite new to cycling and trying to build up my fitness and endurance. Longest distance i've covered so far is 40 miles at 16-17mph avg.
How long are the club runs and do you think i'd be fit enough for them. Is riding with a club likely to be more productive than riding solo - live in Kilkeel so quite a bit away from you guys.
It is my goal to ride the costal challenge later this year.
p.s - Fantastic Website

Clear as mud , but I think the Sunday runs should start in Dromara and if any one wants to meet along the way no problem, just make sure someone knows were to meet up ?

Yes always good to get out on another run also. Took part in the Dave Kane run last Sun. Excellent. Good to see other Dromara cc members there! Apologies to them got sucked along on the back of the group thinking they were right there and never saw any of them after the start. Portaferry came up quite quickly but unfortunately somebody came even more quickly from behind and hit me and another rider as he hit the deck, we stayed on our bikes but lost the group. Anyway ended up doing the second half on my tod. Lesson learned : Do not slack when trying to get back on the back! Sprinting is not optional! oh and watch what's happening in front!

....and the next thing we need to sort out is A and B groups.
We have enough out now to be able to split into two groups on a Sunday as no one wants to be killed keeping up while others want to go home feeling like they have made the best use of their limited time on the bike. We can stay together for the first 15 mile before splitting into 2 groups, meeting at the tea stop. Something the same on the way home. The speed depends on the route but I would think somewhere 15 - 20 for the A group and 12 - 14 for the B
It is then up to the individual to figure out which they should ride with but understanding the A group will keep at a reasonably high pace

I don't want to state the obvious but there are people on the club run who don't read this message board. I trust someone has got on the blower and made sure that all members know not to turn up in Dromara at 10.

Trevor and Bob do a great job sending out text messages to all, letting everyone know what is happening.
Meeting in 2 places worked out well . 11 of us headed out on the Sunday run ( Bob, numpty, Anne, Jim, Denis, Stephen, Richard, Peter, John, Nigel and me We cycled around lots of quiet back roads near Tyrella. Our lunch stop was in Mauds in Newcastle. On the way home we spilt into two groups - some headed home others to Banbridge. It was mucky but alot of fun!. Cheers to all
Blue Peter task ....... to save our mucky clothes each of us should try to make mud flaps ..... Stephen has shown us the way with his very impressive mud flaps out of milk cartons. ( We all wanted to cycle behind him )Other suggestions were coke cans, fabric bottles ??

I don't know why you all want mud guards ? isn't mud supposed to good for the skin ? If you don't want to get mucky just stay at the front and clean .

Best run yet, even if it was raining and dark by the time I got home. Long and steady at a fraction under 100 miles with a big hill in the middle.
Tip-Top stuff but there were times on the way back when I wished I had kept my big mouth shut at lunch-time about going back over Spelga. I'm used to having my daft club run route ideas ignored and so the last thing I expected was to actually be taken seriously.
See you all next Sunday, where I will be deliriously happy if anyone else comes with flaps. IMHO, 1 litre milks are good, but not quite big enough without stapling two bottles together. Fabric conditionor bottles are also good because of the extra long straight sides but I think Tesco's own brand bottles make much better flaps than either lenor or comfort. Plus, Tesco's Cedar and Geranium fabric conditioner will make your clothes smell nice too.
PS. If anyone here does actually read the comic then for the record, yes that is me in the club news section.
