Welcome to the 'I Can't Climb Because I'm Big Boned Cycling Club' first inaugural meeting.
(Doughnuts and snacks are to your right;)
I'll get things started. I'm Graeme and I'm naturally big boned and I have to work hard to climb well. I have started this club for the thousands of us out there that are vertically challenged to stop believing that just because we're big boned doesn't mean we can't climb. Mr. Indurain couldn't make it to today's meeting, but he's here in spirit.
The First Rule of the 'I Can't Climb Club' is:
We are no longer to believe that just because we don't weight 130 to 150 pounds that we don't have the ability to climb well. We'll learn to love our bodies just the way they are and that heavy or not...we can put the hurt on the feather-weights!
The Second Rule of the 'I Can't Climb Club' is:
We will work diligently in our training to turn our lackluster climbing into a powerful tool and asset by maximizing our core strength, low back strength, leg power, and mental toughness.
We will use all available tools to do so, no matter what the cost!
The Third Rule of the 'I Can't Climb Club' is:
We will stop at nothing to reverse our negative thinking about climbing and we will reinforce our climbing strength with a daily training mantra that we will use to draw power from; 'I'm a strong and powerful climbing machine!'
Are you ready for your first assignment?
ASSIGNMENT 1: Over the next week I want you to determine what your greatest weakness is in regards to your climbing. Be HONEST! This is critical! Put down that doughnut!
Is it your weight from too many doughnuts or beers? (Nutrition)
Is it because you can't drive the pedals hard? (Power & Core)
Is it because you can't keep your breath? (Aerobic & Training)
Is it because you lack the tolerance for discomfort? (Mental)
Is it because you're not training to climb well? (Plan)
Figure it out! I want an answer by next week! This will help us to move to step 2 of turning you into a 'strong and powerful climbing machine!'
That's all for today's meeting...see you at the pub!
IMPORTANT NOTE TO THE FEATHER-WEIGHTS:
If you are one of the 130 to 150 pound climbing phenoms, that always puts us into a world of pain on the hills you have received this message in error and we bid you farewell and hope to see you at the next rest stop eating a sandwich...
or maybe two!
We hope that you don't take advantage of our secret training programs (CORE and ZEN) to help you climb even stronger too!
Don't you have enough already? Can't we all just get along!
