Woke up late and knocked my pan in getting over to Brennans for an early start. Good group out for the 50 miler, Bob and numpty, Ann, Steven, Davy and Ross, a few other faces in old style Dromara kit who I don't know. A cold morning which got progressively more miserable the closer we got to the mountains.
The pace upped after the climb into Castlewellan. After a soaking on the way to Hilltown we had a 32 mph charge down into Bryansford led by the Pattersons. Stopped off for tea at Shimna Valley House, always impressive and always a warm welcome. From there, another charge back to Brennans.
First outing for the winter bike and no better day for it. Had a long chat with a member of the Loughinisland crew who pointed out it was good I had bothered to put on mudguards. This long chat took place as we both digested the contents on the road from Castlewellan to Hilltown, very tasty. To nail my colours I am now a convert to the full mudguard gang. I too can now be smug or in the words of the KLF - JUSTIFIED AND ANCIENT.
"Get your Guards On"
Thanks to Loughinisland lads for a good run, spoke to a fella..Ryan ? who said he and maybe others were up for the Saturday No Control run.

I am now a convert to the full mudguard gang Well done Peter. I trust you have regulation-length flaps on too. You can ride behind me over the winter and stay clean and healthy.

Good run but a pity they couldn't have put the word out a bit better. The first I knew about it was when the message was put on here by Trevor. I think it is organised by the McKibbin family rather than Lantern Rouge so perhaps we can get a date from Mrs McKibbin and get the word out.
There were only about 26 in the group we were in and I am sure no more than 40 in total.
Pity as you only had to look at the wee boy standing at the window as we left Bryansford to know what a good cause it was in aid of.
