At the risk of stirring up an old debate - Which proved to be great entertainment when we last discussed it What are peoples secret regimes for the coming cold months. Will it be Slow Patrol or No Control. Saturday's or Sunday's Spinning or the Towpath Weights or Wine Indoor trainer or a Day Glow Jacket What are people planning for when the dark comes.

I plan the same 7.25% reduction in cycling ability and to do fewer miles drink more beer and eat more peanuts. And if all that fails I could also join Mr Wallace!
And if that doesn't yield results then I shall fall back on getting out on the bike on a Sun and drinking coffee, might even try to lose a bit of weight.

All being well i will be on the slow patrol on Sundays and the towpath on thursdays as well as riding to work. As for weights or wine, lifting a few bales of hay for the wife's horses will do me ;D . I probably will do the cyclo-cross as well. BTW who fancies a pi$$ up in few weeks??

Has anybody tried a single speed or fixed (same as single but no freewheel)? If winter training stayed away from big hills this might be a way of doing less miles but building muscles and getting away from easy option of 20 or 30 gears. I fancy building something from an old lugged steel frame or an ex-track bike. Any thoughts?
