Well here it is, the last of the reliability reports. Next week the racing boys embark on new season, though by all accounts they were out today practicing on the circuit, we certainly saw a fair few of the Kaners crowd coming back today looking suspicious.
Two groups out from the House of Sport, the first of maybe 70 bikes left for a longer and probably faster run at 9.30. the second, about 50 bikes, with Nigel, myself and Deek left just after. The weather had been overcast but warmish for the early start, but as we headed out towards Lisburn it became clearer we were in for a soaking. On the road to Moira it lashed, I don't know if you become more aware of it because you are wearing white but the road sh**te started flying. Don't think even full mudguards would have made much difference, I was grey with in seconds.
Through Moira the pace upped on the drag through the town which was the first painful bit of the day, but most survived and on we sploshed to Dromore and then on the roller coaster to Ballynahinch, all very civilised if a bit on the wet side. Turned out towards Downpatrick and then the main road back to Belfast over the drags between Crossgar and Saintfield, were the rain gods again decided to empty on us again. By this stage I had the gloves off the glasses stowed and a resigned expression. The wind was tough enough on the road back but we made it home with the usual flourish at the end.
I had about 72 for the day wth an average of just over 19.
Congrats to Deek, who stuck it, rode through on the front and bunny hopped one of the road craters, spot the mountain biker!
Thanks to Phoenix for a well marshalled route.
