Martin:
Found your e-mail on your cycling club site .... hope you can spare me a few moments.
Just hoping you might know a member of a Stewart family in Dromara that might have lived there long-term and be knowledgeable of the recent history of that family in the area. My grandmother immigrated to the States in the early 1900's from Dromara. Her dad, Robert Stewart, died in 1901 and owned three small farms there and lived at "House 8 Moybrick Upper."
Trying to learn more of my Irish "roots." Not easy from across the pond?
Thanks much for your time, Barry Coombs Saluda, NC, USA
PS: Avid cycling area here in the mountains of North Carolina.=

Barry - no big mountains here but there are plenty of hills. The geological term is Drumlins which are relic from the last Ice Age when the ice retreated leaving behind a landscape of rounded hills which mean we all have to learn how to be good climbers in the Dromara CC! I am not from the area but I will ask around the club to see if anybody can help you with tracing your roots.

Barry, there is loads of Stewarts in and around Dromara and i would say i know most of them....there even is a Stewarts Road and they have been in around as long as i can remember.I will try and speak to some of the older ones to try and help you out. I also know the chaiman of the local history group and will ask him too....he lives on Stewarts Road!

I have also fed back comments from Chris and BL to this guy. He has now sent me this update.
Martin: Thanks very much. I'm sure I've got some Irish cousins out there somewhere ..... appreciate any help you can can give me. I've attached a pic of my great grandfather, Robert Stewart with his wife Margaret Craig Stewart taken about 1875 in Dromara ....a dashing couple? The Stewarts I believe stayed in Ireland and not head for the States are: - Anne Jane (1876-?) - James (1882-?) - Henry (1888-?) - Nancy (1880-?) Perhaps some of their descendants are still about? If your cycling club decides on a major road trip you should come here to the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. The sport is big here .... the terrain can be a bit challenging! Thanks again, Barry

Martin:
Don't want to be a bother ..... just wondered if you had any luck? If it looks like a dead end, please let me know .... appreciate your efforts..
Busy dodging tornadoes here this past week ...... luckily nothing where we live except heavy rains, but the rest of the south suffered some very saddening damage.
Cheers, Barry
