The plan today was for 4 of us to go XC to Castlewellan meeting up with the roadies in Eurospar Castlewellan of a tea stop. In total 13 turned up in Dromara at 10, the roadies heading first to Brennan's to pay for the food we had at the xmas TrailQuest. As with previous years Conor McKibbin gave us a very generous discount. Deek, BL, Ross and me headed for the concrete lane taking us onto Slieve Croob and the need for 1st gear. We climbed about 2/3 the way up before circling round to the main lane. From there a straight line to the lane up to the top of Legananny mtn and a great run to the Kiln Hill road where we went along the Ardglass before more XC. Bit of tough work here due to gorse, was a relief to get to a lane we were looking taking us to the Slievehanny Road. As time was getting on it was roads now as far as Castlewellan Forest. Unfortunately for me I had run out of water about an hour before and was now starting to feel the worst for it. I just about made it to the stop thanks to BL giving me water and a banana. The others had just arrived 5 min ahead of us. After a re-fuel we headed for home with different ones pealing off along the way to Ballynahinch. If it had of been down hill all the way I would still have been struggling! Good day and good to see the numbers increasing.

The xc today was superb with routemaster Bob again excelling himself with a lot of tough climbing but we were rewarded with stunning views and excellent descents. Also some bike carrying just to keep things interesting!! A nice run through C/wellan forest and a well deserved feed. The run home was a killer as me,BL,Steve and Fritz went over the back of Slieve Croob into a head wind which added another 10 mile to the run My chain jumped off as it was completely dry fom riding through the heather. It was the first time i had to pedal down the rib AND i did'nt even brake to turn into my house ;D .
