Ok here goes, remember it's only a report. ;D
Cold and frosty in Killyleagh this morning, arrived in Lisburn to see Deek, Marcus, Darren, Davy and Ronnie. Deek me and Marcus headed out with the first group which was a fair size maybe 40 odd bikes, remained cold out the big roads past Hillsborough towards Banbridge, a left turn up through the Horseshoe to Castlewellan, Deek must have turned somewhere here after riding up from Dromara and suffering frostbite on the way into Lisburn. Speed was picking up as we went on to Newcastle and then Dundrum for the tea stop. I say tea stop more like, half-a-cup-pause, but well organised, as was the whole route, the fast boys arrived into the stop and we got on the road again, through the drags towards Clough and then a right up to Downpatrick, by now the those working the front was down to the warriors with a sizeable lounge sitting in....
Just as an aside, there are quite a few things I like about the reliabilities, big bunch riding, riding through when you can, the banter and the range of people having a go or just going, but may I just point out the there is a certian uniqueness to the feeling of knowing that the fast group are going to appear and crash the party.
So it was on the way up to Killyleagh when the Motorbikes went past our group, the speed lifted and on the bumps out to Saintfield the sound of pops and bangs could almost be heard. I think Marcus turned for home here after riding up from Ballynahinch. We got through most of the hard bumps and bad surfaces outside Killyleagh, but about 2 miles from Saintfield they appeared and that was that, those that could did and those that could'nt didnt. I did'nt, not that it matters, I was done. Saw the Dromara boys and that Baines fella, briefly.
Got into a group of five which split again before Lisburn, lovely downhill to finish tainted somewhat by the shock of traffic.
A good day out., 74 miles at 19 ave.
Ronnie and the Hair Bears ( sounds like a bad glam rock band from the 70's) finished in the lead group which was averaging 23 for the day. Looking good for the racing
Alright let 'er rip....Stevie Wallace you are nominated as referee
