A night full of incidents....
3 punctures and a ceased bottom bracket. We had to push Trevor N back from Belfast to Lisburn.
But more importantly one of the Bogues' boys took a tumble. Gareth Blair. Ambulance was called and he was stretchered off. Waiting for an update on that one.
One another point, one of their group had a space blanket with them (the tin foil type). Really good idea. I'm off to see where I can purchase a couple for our group.

Latest on Gareth
"Gareth is in hospital with an xray that showed possible neck fracture. He is waiting on a CT scan."
Yikes!

Sorry to hear about Gareth - a timely reminder to all of us to be careful out there. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Thanks to everyone who assisted with the "big push" back to Lisburn last night. I've just delivered the bike back to said dealer -they "had never seen anything like that happen before." I told them I was not amused.

Good luck fella

Thanks to everyone who assisted with the "big push" back to Lisburn last night. I've just delivered the bike back to said dealer -they "had never seen anything like that happen before." I told them I was not amused. Instead of pushing I found it easier to loop two tubes together and loop one end around the seat post of the tower and the other end being held by the towed over the stem. That way the one doing the work has two hands on the bars, especially for the hills. This has been tried and tested by myself and Raymond Jess on the tow path

Bob, we had enough tubes to do that!!! But that would have meant only one pulling Trevor N along. Hard work for one rider on that cold night. Stewart took some photos while we watched Alan fix Phil's puncture (this was the first of the 3 for the night). Stewart used to be the 'big pump' guy but has now dropped into the resident photographer. Dennis was our resident expert, Trevor provided lighting, Raymund (moral support), Surfer Stevie (pump action), Kyle (look out man), Phil was the damsel in distress and I managed the site A real team effort. The repair lasted to the Lockkeepers when Stewart and Dennis opted to stop and help repair Phil's puncture again (he suspected the replacement tube was no good). The rest of us (6) went on through the trees, Kyle and Alan up front, Trevor and Stevie together, Raymund and me at the back. Great run through here. This is when we seen the other guys through the trees. Thought one of them had a mechanical as well. We powered up the hill and then turned back on ourselves at the top. This is when we seen the emergency foil blanket coming out. That wasn't a good sign. We went on as there were lots of riders standing around the faller. Meet Johnny Dugan and pal in the car park. Exited the trees back to the tow path heading for Stranmillis. Didn't get that far when the shout came up from Trevor. Cranks really stiff. We could see the tread of the bottom bracket appearing. Not good. Pushed him home. Meet the other 3 at the exit from the Meadows. Dennis had a puncture this time. We pushed on to let Dennis & co catch up. No cardiac hill this time. Big push back home taking turns with the pushing. Close to Lisburn I relieved Kyle who cycled forward. I was on Trevor's left, Dennis was on his right. We didn't think there would be a sprint tonight as there wasn't much room left but, within sight of the civic centre, Alan came around Dennis. I shouted to Kyle but it was too late. Alan had the jump and made it home first. Good night anyway. Looking forward to next Thursday.

B/brkt update - it turns out that my b/brkt actually split in two Not exactly ideal for a bike thats only 2mths old. A new b/b has been ordered under warranty (of course!) and if it arrives in time i will be out on Thu night. T

Good result Trevor, interesting thought that it is covered under warranty. When the Hub on my FSR - which I have nicknamed Judas - broke, I asked for it to be fixed under Warranty and they said no, it was wear and tear. Funny how since I posted the problem originally on BikeRadar 5 people have contacted me with the same issue and had their LBS in England fix it as per the agreement. I guess 5 issues doesn't warrant a recall though
