DOWNEY SECOND IN FRANCE

Young Irish rider Sean Downey clocked up a fine result yesterday when he took second in the Grand Prix de Bohas in Ain. The VC La Pomme rider was clear in a successful break and sprinted home behind Bruno Chardon (UC Barisienne) and ahead of Rémi Pompanon (SCO Dijon).
Downey is based in France with the team, which helped a number of riders including Irishmen Mark Scanlon, Nicolas Roche, Philip Deignan and Dan Martin to pro contracts.
Two weeks ago he was third in the GP de Carces, attacking out of a break but being passed by two riders immediately before the finish line.
