I just typed a nice report detailing the hills and pain of today's race. However when I had it up in Preview mode it disappeared so I can't be bothered now.....The highlights.... Today it was myself and John the Welshman. The circuit was pretty taxing with 2 climbs. A group of 15 to 20 went on the first climb, including mr Bell. i stayed with them until we got to the first climb on the second lap. At this point Tommy Evans and a couple of others put on the sweat (mental note do some hill training next year). I rode the next lap with a 3rd cat from North Down and a madigan rider. According to the motorbike guy we had 3.5 mins on the bunch for a good lot of the last lap, who knows. North Down guy got over the hills before me on the last lap to take prize for the first 3rd cat but I finished a 2nd 3rd cat in 12th place overall so pretty pleased. I am not sure how JC got on. I think the hills may have sent him running for the hills? For details on winners and stuff you would need to check Cycling Ulster.....I just really wanted to big myself up .... and why not.

yes Well done Richard-well impressive! Would love to tackle a couple of races next year, not confident I'll be fast enough. Need to find 4mph! We'll see though. First part of this would be to lose another stone! Hope you are looking forward to the extra 10 miles in the sportive! I ll be happy to get round the 125 a bit faster this year.
Didn' t make it to the wheelers lough neagh outing today hope all those who did enjoyed!

Well done Richard for staying with the pace up that climb. I thought this was a pretty good event. Good roads with 2 nice climbs. I actually enjoyed the small bit I did even though I didn't have the legs. I had the pleasure of sliding out the back door the first time up the steeper of the two climbs. The usual reasons were there for going off the back .. 1. Not enough power, and 2. too much weight I tried to close down the 200 metre gap to Richards's group for about ten minutes before I realised it was, like always (for I have suffered in this exact scenario more times than I care to remember) totally futile so I was firsdt back to the car park and off home to watch the Coronation Street omnibus on ITV2. If possible I'll do some more racing this season, hopefully somewhere a bit flatter.

John this Friday night for the Lurgan crit. Surely that must be flat? Crit.... big long hill in disguise, especially steep out of the corners

I'll give it a go in Lurgan on Friday. Only 25 miles and flat I may stay in the bunch.
I'm going to ride my first TT of the year on Tuesday night, the Ards club 25 if you fancy it. Nice and flat but I'll be lucky to go sub 1:05 if today is anything to go by.

The Bell doesn't do 25 mile TTs. Those 3 day event TTs at 2 to 4 miles long are as far as I like going. John I hope you are signed up for the sportive next Sunday.
