CHRISTMAS CHARITY CANOE CHALLENGE 2009 A bike, One canoe, 62 Ulster Affiliated Clubs, Over 650 miles... non-stop! Starts Friday, 4th December, 2009 Ex-Ireland international rugby player and Ulsterman Ronnie Carey will lead a team of cyclists and rugby players-turned-cyclist around Ulster towing the Charity Canoe, collecting donations for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children (NICFC). The canoe will be on display outside the Ravenhill RFC ground on the 4th of December where the team, joined by the fabulous Bikedock Belles, will collect donations before the Ulster v. Glasgow match. The team will then be hitting the road, visiting all 62 Ulster RFC clubs in turn with the canoe in tow, returning to Ravenhill on the 7th (if we're still rolling!). Guest cyclists will be joining the team along the route including the Bikedock Belles, former Commonwealth Games champion and winner of this year's solo Race Around Ireland Joe Barr, and No Prior Experience's Graham Little! The canoe has been specially painted with all 62 club insignias and signed by the Ulster Rugby Squad. After the event the canoe, along with shirts from each club visited, will be auctioned to raise additional proceeds for the NICFC. If you see the team en route please cheer them on and don't forget: we welcome all donations! The heavier the canoe gets the more we'll have to struggle to tow the canoe, but we're doing it for families of young children and teenagers coping with cancer. The heavier, the better!
