Nice weather again for the run with 5 brave souls, Stewart, Alan, Pete, Trevor and Colin turning up for a spin down the tow path. Dennis and Martin were chicken this week
We set off at a gentle pace, heading for the footbridge at Edenderry and up towards the Giants Ring which had quite a bit of surface mud and was quite slippery in places. Colin and Alan found the stones that had been put in the deeper mud patches very slippery and fell, thankfully without injury, slowing them up a bit.
Down the cobbled lane with some of the boys wearing fingerless gloves getting stung a bit and down the road towards Shaws bridge.
We all headed up the climb into Belvoir Forest after the gates and Alan and Stewart led on the fast downhill out and into the open area towards another drag up into the forest. We slowed up when I realized we were alone, when Pete caught up we stopped and waited just through the metal gates. After 5 mins we came to the conclusion that Trevor and Colin had took the shortcut and was going to meet us up ahead so we headed on, passing a few other mtb’rs out with plenty of lights on. When we got to the car park Alan phoned Trevor to hear that he had got a puncture on the climb into Belvoir and that Colin had headed on to catch us up. Colin had not reached us yet and seemed AWOL, in the Dark, in a forest that ya might not be familiar with isn’t good so we headed off in search looping back into the forest. After a while we made some calls and reorganised ourselves with Trevor waiting at Lock Keepers Cottage and me half way to Cutters on the tow path and Alan and Pete on a sweep through the forest again.
After 15 mins of me waiting on the towpath along came a lone mtb’r that was Colin. He had seen 3 mtb’rs ahead and unable to catch up kept on following on the assumption that it was us! When he caught them close to Belvoir Estate he told them that Trevor had a puncture and they informed him they were only 3 of them out and they did not know who Trevor was! Oops.
Once we all grouped up again we headed back towards Lisburn with Alan and Pete giving Barnetts and Mary Peters a run, catching us on the Towpath further up. The pace quickened as Pete muscled through to the front pulling the group on well. After a while Alan came through and he and I pushed on hard to Coke when I eased up to check everyone was there and also because I was busted
I turned off here with the rest of the group heading on back to the finish.
An eventful night! great fun, roll on next week ;D
