Stevie, it's the only awards I'll get my hands on. Dromara CC have also been honoured with Ulster Cycling Club of the year today at the CU AGM. Hopefully another picture to follow courtesy of Marian Lamb.

Dromara Cycling Club collected their third prize in a week at the Cycling Ulster AGM, held in The Corner House Bar Derrymacash, Craigavon last Saturday 17th October 2009. The prized award of Cycling Ulster Club of the Year 2009 came with a cheque for €150 for the Cycling Ireland club affiliation in 2010. Cycling Ulster treasurer Oliver Hunter presented the cheque to Dromara Cycling Club’s Assistant Secretary Martin Grimley after the AGM. Two nominations had been received for the Cycling Ulster club of the year. Apollo CT had been nominated by Dromara while Dromara had been nominated by Banbridge CC. Decision was based on a variety of criteria such as quality and range of events, development of youth and women and being proactive in safeguarding issues. Tommy Lamb, Chairman of Cycling Ulster, said, "I have watched this club develop rapidly in the past three years. There is a 'can do' attitude and they are not afraid to try something new. They have been proactive in finding out information relating to Safeguarding Young People and Vulnerable adults in Sport." This award followed just a week after Dromara CC finished in the top four clubs in the Cycling Ireland 2009 awards in which Club Secretary Trevor Annett received the Ulster Volunteer of the Year award. On Friday 16th of October 2009 Club Secretary Trevor Annett, Assistant Secretary Martin Grimley and Treasurer Vivienne Crawford attended the Draynes Farms Lisburn Sports Personality of the Year Awards at the Island Civic Centre. The evening was also a celebration of 400 years of sport. The event was organised by Sport Lisburn who worked closely with the leisure services department of Lisburn City Council to put on a very professional show. The awards dinner was hosted by BBC sports reporter, Stephen Watson who, with quick wit and good humour, did a tremendous job keeping the large gathering entertained. Stephen took time between courses to chat to Lisburn’s two Olympic Gold medal winners Dame Mary Peters and Jimmy Kirkwood along with others sports stars from the past 50 years. Film clips of sporting highlights were also shown. The tension mounted as the main awards were presented, even more so as Stephen interviewed all the winners, showing he had spent time researching his facts. Dromara Cycling Club received the runner up award for the sports club of the year, the main prize going to Salto Gymnastics. The Mayor of Lisburn Councillor Allen Ewart presented the trophy to a proud Trevor Annett. The award was given for various reasons including growth in female and youth membership, promoting all forms of leisure cycling and racing. This including hosting The Irish Mountain Bike Cross-Country Championships in July 2009, in which five of the club’s members won medals. The cycling road season finished on a high for the club with the Dromara team winning the Ulster Road Race Championships and another club member receiving a silver medal in the vets championships.
