Many thanks to all for your support, but this is an award for Dromara CC and the hard work put in by many people. Trevor. My Report. The Cycling Ireland Champions Night took place on Saturday 10th October in the luxurious Cavan Crystal Hotel. A day out was planned for those attending with both on and off road cycles. At 5pm the Road, Youth and Off-Road Commission held their meetings to review 2009 and make preparations for the 2010 season. Two Dromara Cycling Club members Martin Grimley and Trevor Annett attended the Off-Road commission, where Dromara received acclaim for hosting an excellent 2009 Irish MTB Cross Country Championships last July. The evening concluded with the Irish Champions awards dinner. The food was excellent with all medal winners receiving a complimentary meal. Geoff Liffey and the staff at Cycling Ireland had done a superb job in organising the event. As part of the evening a local artist who has a keen interest in cycling, Deepa Mann-Kler, held her exhibition of "Kings of The Road". Deepa lives in Killyleagh and here work can be viewed online. Deepa is very kindly donating a picture to Dromara Cycling Club as a perpetual award for Club person of the year. Dromara CC greatly appreciates this gesture. Cycling Ulster where represented at the dinner by Oliver Hunter [Treasurer] and Tommy Lamb [chairman]. In the prize giving many Ulster riders were to the fore with Marcus Christie lifting several medals, Sean Downey collecting his U23 Champions medal and Martyn Irvine the silver in the Time Trial Championships. In the Members awards section it was Trevor Annett of Dromara CC who scooped the prestigious Ulster Volunteer Award, which was well deserved, as Trevor has put a tremendous amount of work into the club over the past few years devolving and promoting all types of cycling events. Dromara CC membership in 2009 was 122,hosted the Irish MTB XC Championships and raised £3000 for charity. The Dromara club league is now the largest in the country with 68 club members taking part in 2009. With continued growth in mind Dromara CC are co-ordinating a four race UCX Cyclo-Cross race series starting on Saturday 17th a Lurgan Park, hosted by Apollo Cycling Team. Other races will take place in Carrickgergus, Lisburn, etc. As well as the adult Cyclo-Cross race there will be an MTB support race and under age racing. This is a perfect way to introduce non-club members, women and children to cycle clubs and to racing. All you need is a Mountain bike in good working order and a helmet. There are separate race categories for women in both the MTB and Cyclo-Cross races. The races will take place on flat safe courses and the children only race with their own age groups. The age groups are under16, under 14, under12, under 10 and under 8. The youngest riders only do shortened courses with a close eye kept and a little help is allowed if necessary. Dromara Cycling Club have two riders in the under 8, Drew who is 7 and Kayla who is just 6. Full details on the UCX Series and The Dromara Trail Quest winter league which starts on Sunday 8th of November can be found on our website, www.dromaracc.co.uk
