Seven tough guys out tonight, Stewart, Dennis, Lance!, Kenneth, Peter, Jonathan and Robert. Martin was chicken this week as was Trevor
The weather was dry and quite warm with a bit of cloud cover. I wrapped up a bit more this time as I wore shorts/summer gear and Martin and I were freezing last week.
Dennis debut his new red frame tonight which was tasty and Lance got the old frame which still looks stunning also. This will no doubt make things even harder for me to stay with them on the trail quests, thanks lads
We all headed off with still plenty of light as the clocks have yet to change. Because of the weather, there was still plenty of walkers with unleashed dogs about on the way down . The pace was easy but brisk as the wind was on our backs most of the way. We turned over the bridge and made a run at the Giants Ring. After the first short climb from the path I nearly got lost because it’s been that long since I’d been in that area! The track was dry and fast with no grip problems and a few of pushed on a bit and had great craic. There was alot of kids camping or partying in the centre of Giants Ring and their parents seemed a little like “rabbits in the headlights” as seven mtb’rs with the bright headlights approached the exit gate they were standing at. Down through the “very grown over” lane with a few yelps from Jonathan behind as he got stung by the same nettles as me on the way down. We headed down and the road and past Shaws bridge and into Belvoir Forest for the sharp climb up and out again onto the tow path again. Everyone but Kenneth and Robert headed for the Lagan Meadows and we arranged to meet back up on the path on the way back home. The Lagan Meadows it seems doesn’t get any easier and it was a good brisk run through as I tried to keep up with Lance on his new steed (note to self: leave the heart rate monitor at home next week). Once back onto the tow path we got into a good pace but had to slow a bit as Peter had hurt his ankle doing the Iron Man event and it was playing up a bit. Getting near to the bridge at Ballyskeagh I speeded up a bit from the front just to carry me up and over the rise, well this was a red rag to Dennis who took off after me followed by Lance, both thinking I was racing off in a mad sprint to leave them. Then Jonathan rode past and decided to have some too, so it turned into a mad dash as we all sprinted off ;D
After all meeting up again Peter and I headed off for home at Coke with the rest continuing on. Forgot to check the miles or avg spd but there was lots of smiles. A great run. Roll on next week
