This is an email from Louise Fullerton
A date for your diaries! Saturday 10th October! The Ulster Womens Association are running a womens training day, from the Valley Leisure Centre. It will consist of a spin for about 2-3 hours in the morning. The mtb girls will do their own trail and the road girls may or may not split into 2 groups depending on numbers etc. As it is the end of the season this is purely a steady social training spin, a chance for us all to get together. Then it's showers and lunch back at the Leisure Centre followed by workshops in a conference room from 2-4pm. Gary McKeegan has offered to do a coaching session on training techniques and theory, i.e winter base training/cross training, lactic threshold training, VO2max intervals etc and tie these into the different disciplines. Also very important is nutrition what to eat and when, hydration and recovery. Other things to consider are core strength & conditioning and stretching. Heather Wilson has offered to provide a handout on some tips for Winter training and progressing within the Sport. The agenda is to be confirmed, as soon as it is, I'll let you know. Also this is the perfect opportunity for us to carry out a feedback session on the Ulster Womens league and also what you would like for next year. If you want to e-mail me your suggestions and ideas, I'll run up an agenda. For example, the handicapping of the races, more races, more training days etc. If you are unable to attend the training day please forward me on your suggestions also. All feedback welcome!! I'd appreciate if you could e-mail me if you intend to attend, so I can have a rough estimate of numbers.
lodaro4@hotmail.co.uk Many Thanks and hope to see you all soon! Louise

Women's Training Day 10th October
The Ulster Women's Association are running a women's training day, from the Valley Leisure Centre on Saturday 10th October. The format will involve training runs in road and off road depending on your preference. The runs will last approximately 2-3 hours. The groups may be split according to ability. There will be showers and changing facilities available in the Leisure Centre.
The morning training session will be followed by lunch and talks on a variety of subjects including a coaching session on training techniques and theory such AS winter base training/cross training and lactic threshold training, VO2max intervals These will alll be tied into the different disciplines. Also very important is nutrition what to eat and when, hydration and recovery. Other things to consider are core strength & conditioning and stretching. Gary McKeegan, Cycling Ulster's Coaching Officer, will lead these talks.
Heather Wilson, the Irish National Road Race Champion, has offered to provide a handout on some tips for Winter training and progressing within the Sport.
A full agenda will be posted when all the details have been finalised.
Feedback is also requested on the Ulster Women's League piloted this year and the Association are open to suggestions as to how to move forward into 2010. Louise Fullerton who organised the Road Race League this year will take on board any suggestions for improvement. A similar venture may be possible in off road and would encourage more women to participate. The Tuesday evening runs from Bike Dock proved very popular in 2009 and Ciara MacManus and Julie Watt will provide an update on these.
Any woman interested in attending or finding out more should contact Louise Fullerton on lodaro4@hotmail.co.uk or 07515174543

The Cycling Ulster Women’s Association held a successful training camp based at the Valley Leisure Centre, Newtownabbey today (Saturday). Forty riders attended the event that contained a morning training spin, an afternoon talk on nutrition and workshops on the future of Women’s Road Racing and Mountain Biking in the province We all had a great day and plenty of Dromara ladies, myself,Bernie,Therese, Mary, Antje, we were out on the road bikes and mountain bikers there was Diane Keys, Gillian Armstrong and another lady but i dont know her name. The day got underway by the Women’s Association Chair, Louise Fullerton briefing the road riders about the day ahead and Mountain Bike representative on the Cycling Ulster Executive, Ciara MacManus doing the same with the Off Road contingent. We were split into two groups, A group stayed out a bit longer and was a bit faster and the B group wasnt out as long and slower. The Dromara ladies went out with the faster group we did around 30 miles av 15.2 Cycling Ulster’s Talent ID Officer, Anthony Mitchell was out too. The Mountain bikers went to Cavehill with Ciara MacManus and they were out for 2 hours. We all got back to Valley Leisure Centre before lunch time had a shower and then lunch. Following a break for lunch, Nutritionist and Sports Science Lecturer, Darren McWilliams give the attendees an insight into ‘fueling for success’. McWilliams covered a number of areas including general food types and how much of them are necessary for regular cyclists. Ciara MacManus then give an insight into the Off Road disciplines, including a presentation on Mountain Biking and Cyclo-cross. The Cycling Ulster Executive member has already been instrumental in developing a leisure and social style atmosphere for this side of the sport, and this philosophy will continue through Winter Mountain Bike spins planned from now until Christmas. On the competition front, it was pointed out that those interested in this side of the sport should try the racing events in both Cyclo-cross and Mountain Biking to ensure Women only competitions are viable. Organiser of the 2009 Ulster Women’s Road League, Louise Fullerton delivered the final presentation of the day. The Ballymena Road Club member led the discussion on this year’s league, with several suggestions from the floor for next year’s series being taken on board for further consideration. Other possible ventures for the Women’s Association were also put forward, including a time-trial league and a trip to an indoor velodrome. So overall it was an enjoyable day and meeting so many new faces

Here's an email from Louise Fullerton
We've 2 more events for your calendar. Two training days, another chance for us all to get together, some feedback on your queries and suggestions following our day in Newtownabbey and also a chance for anyone who wasn't able to make that day to join us. 1st day. Saturday 7th Novemeber. Meeting at 9am Ballymena Leisure Centre and joining the Ballymena Road Club for training spins. Two different cycles available:- 1. the clubs 'fun' run, a steady sociable pace usually 30+ miles and for those who are interested you can join the clubs faster group for a 50 mile cycle. Plenty of opportunity here to ride in a bunch and get lots of useful advise from friendly and experienced members. Then back to the Leisure Centre around 12.30 for showers, coffee/lunch, whatever you fancy in the canteen and a chat. (Both Runs will be informal chats after) 2nd day. Saturday 5th December. Meeting at 9am at the Hillsborough Centre and again 2 training spins as above. Shower and lunch facilities back at the centre. Perhaps the Dromara women could help us with the routes on this one? Anyway, that's the plan, please let me know if this interests you. Many Thanks. Regards Louise
