Decent weather for a spot of biking yesterday. Around 60 turned up for 3rd cats and vets race. I liked the course - out the lurgan road in banbridge towards gilford onto scarva and up the hill to banbridge. The usual Dromara suspects out with myself as an added bonus. My plan for this one was to actually complete the race in the bunch instead of being dropped after 3 miles like in my previous open race attempt. This I managed ok. It probably helped that it was a pretty slow race. Wednesday and Thursday were much harder. Thomas martin and a couple of others broke away in the 4th or 5th lap. They were never really chased. On the hill from scarva nobody wanted to work on the front waiting for the sprint. Close to the line a couple of boys went down just behind us. This left a bunch at the front including myself, Darren and Ronnie with a slight gap. If we had all been able to go then we might of all have placed well. it turned out the others were soon on us. Darren tangled with a guy in front of me and they were nearly down. Leaving Ronnie as the leading Dromara contender ( a surprize there) with 4th place overall. Gareth Crookes (lemons) was there also and he got fifth. He only needs one more point to join in the fun (?) with the 1st and 2nd cats. If points were awarded for the fast look Davie Mcknight would be a 1st cat by now. Yesterday he was sporting a nice combination of go faster stripes (check cycling ulster for an up close and personal encounter with the 'hair bear' bunch).
