;D ;)I was the last to arrive last night and got the well deserved heckles about starting at 7pm on the dot Four others were gathered for a burst down the tow path, Stephen H, Alan, Trevor and Dennis. Stewart tried but failed to get out of some family commitments (hard luck Stewart!).
We finally got away for just after 7 this time with no mechanical problems. All riders having two working brakes. The night was mild with only light rain from time to time but never heavy enough to put a dampener on the evening. With the light rain though Dennis and I happily decided to give the Ring a miss, much to the annoyance of hot shot Alan who felt that he was missing out on his valuable training for the league.
Dennis lead after the footbridge on into Belvoir. With Trevor out, we barely got the chance for a quick drink before having to push on once more. It was fairly fast through the trees with me trying to keep ahead of the bunch. I also managed to get up the hill to the car park first again even thought I hadn't been on the bike since last Thursday. When I got to the car park I was deafening myself with my own heavy breathing. Dennis was ready for the off immediately but I held back to ensure that Trevor caught up (but more importantly to catch my breathe ;D ). Onwards they pushed, Dennis and Alan up front, Stephen tucked in behind, then a gap to me and Trevor. Back to the car park and I had to stop to take off some clothing, such was the mild night. This of course left me chasing the others as they headed down, over the bridge and onto the tow path again. Nice quick run to Strandmillis before turning and all heading into Lagan Meadows. Another fast run through here. As before, as soon as Trevor got back through the gate to the tow path, he pushed past and set off. I had to push hard to catch up with the four.
At Shaw's bridge we came across the runners, all lined up at the bottom of the climb up to Malone House. They kindly let us go through and we passed several of their marshalls standing with torches on the way up. We didn't stop at the top as we were expecting to get swamped by shorted runners. We charged ahead to make sure we were out of the way but in the end we didn't see the runners. A quick blast through the trees before going around the running track. Dennis, Trevor and Stephen took the easy route while Alan and I went through the BMX jumps. They seem to have been rebuilt again and there did not look like a natural path through them. Perhaps they want us to go over them !!!!
Back onto the path for a nice quick pace back to base. All back for 8:55 with 23.6 miles done at 13.3 mph average (according to Dennis).
Another great night out.
Roll on next week.
