Perhaps we should name this part of the message board "Thursday nights off road adventures" as this is our second night in a row away from the Lagan Towpath. This time it was back to Ballynahinch with Ronnie playing 'guide' to Alan, Stewart and me. Turn out was down due to some more 'man flu' around. The night was mostly dry, 5oC however the roads were wet and this moisture in the air was a real 'chiller'.
We headed up and over the same route we did back on 27 November only it was much more enjoyable for me as a) I was using a different bike with a front mech that worked, b) I switched my HID light to my helmet which was a much better job and c) I had a better idea where I was going. The last time all I seen were hills that never stopped going up!!!
Alan was back to his usual antics falling off 4+ times. Ronnie only had the one tumble but he did manage to fall on his posterior into a puddle and spent the night with a cold gluteus maximum. The route through the trees was great however we were missing BL as our local guide and ended up missing some great single track and even finished up going around in circles trying to find our way back out.
Mechanicals. Alan's rear brake lost the final sliver of 'pad' and he finished with a lovely grinding noise. He was hoping to drop the bike around to younger brother Dennis to fix it for him. Ronnie's gears were slipping especially when he was pushing on over the steep hills.
In the end we finished up with 18 miles done in the two hours. As next Thursday is Christmas day and the one after that is New Year's Day it could well be the 8th January before we are back out again 'adventuring'.
Merry Christmas all
