There was talk on Sunday past of Alan cycling to Majorca to meet the rest on their training week. Some have planned to cycle with him as far as Dublin on the Saturday, returning home on the Sunday. I have looked at a route staying away from major roads and came up with this. The route in PDF Anyone interested or any thoughts? One thing is for sure. Alan is going to have his work cut out making it there in a week with more than a 1000 mile and 2 ferry crossings

So that will be Saturday 4th April to Dublin.
I have picked quiet roads where we can ride 2 up. Not sure of surface or hills. Even if we I had chosen the N1 we would have ended up single file or on the hard sholder collecting punctures.
The down side is I am not sure of the grub stops. Plenty of time to get that sorted. Although we could get into the spirit of things with sadle bags, roll out mats to sit on and primus stoves.

Had a go at sorting a route for you Fritz. Input your name and results.... Under self inflicted conditions the subject is able to transport themselves to any desired location without the aid of GPS or, for that matter, movement.

The cycle trip to Dublin seems a great idea, same as the old Maracycle event. a pint and a pie at each pub. Then you wondered why there was two of everything because it was dubling ( dublin)

Plan for APRIL CYCLE TRIP TO MAJORCA (I am then FLYING BACK after about 9 days on the island) (I will put up precise times during this week) - ANY ONE INTERESTED PLEASE SEE ME ON SATURDAY AT TRAILQUEST, etc, etc:
Sat 4th April cycle to DUBLIN (apparently a fair number definitely interested in this leg), Bob P HAS KINDLY SELECTED A ROUTE FOR US (refer to the recent map on the message board),
Sun 5th April approx. 11am boat to HOLYHEAD Wales,
Sun 5th April cycle part of Wales,
Mon 6th & Tues 7th (& Wed 8th?) cycle on to WEYMOUTH (south England coast port),
Tues 7th night or Wed 8th night to St MALO by overnight boat,
Tues or Wed am cycle from St Malo through FRANCE/NORTH SPAIN until Wed 15th April (pm) (ie 8/9days cycling) to BARCELONA,
Wed 15th pm - Catch overnight boat from BARCELONA to Majorca (ARRIVING PALMA AT BREAKFAST TIME THURSDAY 16th APRIL).
Then about 9 days on Majorca (I have a flight booked back to BELFAST on FRIDAY 24th April (pm).
NOTE - there are plenty of rail lines in France - part will be by train no doubt - just see how things go - it is a leisure tour not a mad dash. Accommmodation - I have jointed the Youth Hostel Association.
All are welcome to come along for all, or part, of this toddle down the road.

Ref:The cycle to Dublin on Saturday 4th APRIL 2009 (and cycle back 5th APRIL-(alternatively get on a boat on Sunday 5th and cycle in Wales for a few days, ending up in Majorcia sometime in 2009)
I had a look at hotels for Saturday 4th APRIL in Dun Loaghaire (beside DART rail system- so only a few minutes to central Dublin) - eg 40EURO (approx £35) EACH PERSON [breakfast INCLUDED] in a HOTEL - TWIN ROOMS.
The HOTEL I looked at today has good availability (I guessed 14 persons) AND I HAVE MADE A PROVISIONAL BOOKING FOR SEVEN TWIN ROOMS - I NEED TO KNOW PRECISE NUMBERS BY LUNCHTIME NEXT THURSDAY (12thFEB).
I will be out for the run this Sunday (8th Feb) - I would be grateful if you could see me then please, or reply to this message, etc.
Try not to come back to me and say you do not like the hotel, it is too dear, what time is breakfast, etc. I am well aware there is no choice noted above, but if there is a full scale rebellion I will probably have to reconsider where we stay on the 4th April, but I am trying to make life simple. Thankyou.
