According to the lads on the Phoenix board, it looks like the ice and most of the trees are cleared from the tow path. However there is a tree down near the Coke factory.
Weather looks good as well. Windy but clear.
See you all later !

Guys, I was riding the towpath from Cutters Wharf to the Island Centre last night. Path was completely clear, apart from the odd slippery patch. Single tracks around Belvior and Mary Peters are to boggy and wet to ride. Gravel path around Bladon is good for a few short hills.

6 out on this cold night, Ronnie, Noel G, Stewart, BL, Deek and me. We had no rain but some cold fog patches around Belvoir. We headed straight for the Lagan Weir tonight then back via Lagan Meadows. The temperature quickly plummeted and we decided to skip Barnetts and get home. Typical that I managed to get 2 punctures, both in the front wheel, one on the way out and one on the way back. No one else had any problems!! Luckily ;D I have recently changed to tubeless and watched while white latex spewing out of the hole in the tyre then sealed the hole each time. Even after the second puncture on the same tyre, the tyre was still hard enough to not hinder the ride back to the Island. I do believe this is my best cycling purchase to date. Well recommended, especially when you have 'thorn finder' tyres like me Looking forward to next week.

Splendid night out on the tow path. No rain, ice, snow etc. The path was a bit muddy in places but otherwise the going was good. There were 9 merry men out tonight. With me were Ronnie and brother, BL, Deek, Dennis, Noel, Stewart and even Trevor! Trevor and I having an unofficial club meeting at the head of the group on the way out. We crossed over at the (very slippery) foot bridge to head down the far side. A wise decision was taken not to go into Belvoir and instead we crossed back over and headed for the Lagan Weir, saying hello to some of the local lads who were giving us lots of support along the Ormeau Embankment Quick spin around the Weir with Ronnie diving across the roads to keep to the front of the group. Ronnie was out tonight on a lighter road bike and give the group even more trouble trying to keep up with him. On the way back we tackled Lagan Meadows then onto the big climb up to Malone House (only Dennis decided to give this a skip). Deek's new idea of not stopping at the top of the climb but rather waiting at the next corner didn't quite work as planned. Trevor and Stewart who were bringing up the rear stopped as usual at Malone House (tea might have been produced ) while the rest headed on. I was at the back of the main group of 5 but as I approached to inform them that Trevor & Stewart were breaking out the Earl Grey, they had ploughed on into the forest. This did mean a wait at the end of the mucky BMX section and, instead of everyone getting cold, the main bunch, lead by Ronnie, headed on while I, and later BL, waited for Trevor and Stewart. A great night out with 25 on the clock. Hopefully that is the end of the cold snap and we can look forward to more great nights on the tow path. Roll on next week. Hope to see you all before that on Sunday for the Trail Quest. ;D

After initial concerns over the level of the river, Trevor was able to provide the all clear (because he can see the river from his house!). Eight of us gathered at Lagan Island on a dry but cold evening. We were even joined in the car park by two members of the "Who the fox is that" team who had dominated the recent Trail Quest League. They (wisely) did not join us for the run. Therefore we were left with: Ronnie, Mark, Noel, Gary, Deek, BL, Stewart and me. The path was in good condition until after the Coca Cola factory where it became very muddy is sections, which were presumably the bits that were under water a few days ago. We kept up a good pace and headed for the Lagan Weir. Unfortunately Mark got a puncture at the Ormeau Bridge and the bunch stopped to help him fix it. Once he finally got back on his bike the decision was taken to just turn back and head for Lagan Meadows. Nice run through LM then back to the tow path. The head wind on the way home had us all tucked in behind each other. We skipped Barnetts and headed for home. Back through the muddy sections, which meant we got a full coverage of whatever the Lagan decided to deposit. (It's on nights like these that you wish the guy in front had full mudguards ) Back for 9. Twenty two miles on the clock. Great run. I fully enjoyed it. See you all next week

A Windy run tonight with Dennis, Gary, Alan, Gary and Stewart up for it. Noel was chicken. Martin wasn't bright enough. Went to the Waterfront and back with no off road excusions (although Dennis was on the grass a few times). Tailwind on our backs on the way down, temp about 10 degrees, Wet and very windy in places on the return but not a bad run. Someone bring an oxygen tank for Chris next week please!! 22 hard miles on the clock.

Well done mtec45 for getting a post up about last night. The "Martin wasn't bright enough" reference is due to the fact that my nice HID light packed in on Wednesday. It was working great on Tuesday night !!! Anyone know where I can get a replacement bulb for a Brightstar Levin HID light, 10W ?

Good conditions tonight for the tow path run with Dennis, Alan, Gary & Gary, Trevor, Stewart and Noel. Martin was away on a dirty weekend and Ronnie & Mark were chicken. Gary was feeling deflated on his return with only one puncture of the night on his van! Dry with light wind, 10 degrees for the run to the Waterfront and back with no off road excursions. Trevor flat out from the start - as usual and Alan tried to bust us all on the way back. Very fast & going well until Dennis had a suspected puncture!!! Yeah yeah yeah Stewart was tyred at the end of the night. (New ones for his road bike from trevor) 25 great miles on the clock @15.6mph avg Looking forward to next week……. ;D

7 out on a quite nice night with a little breeze. The lean, mean Gibson brothers, Dennis, Stewart, Alan, Gary Gray and part time cyclist Trevor. a good night to pick for me as Gary is recovering from a chest infection and both Noel & Dennis cycled home from work. The pace was steady the whole way down past the Waterfront Hall, passing a film unit with wardrobes etc just outside the Belfast Boat Club. Unable to cycle overlagan wier now, new sign No Cycling, so accross Queens Bridge and along the far side. A near pileup as the path was blocked by a buliders fence bloking the path. No lagn meadows or Barrnets so I decided to charge on from Mary Peters, just suceeded in causing Steart and I to Blow just after Lady Dixons. Gary Gibson gave a sharp acceleration before Drumbeg bridge leaving us in his wake. Back at Island centre at 8.55pm, to find Gary Gray with a r/h front puncture. Noel, Dennis, Gary and I spent the next 15 minutes trying to get the spare wheel out from under the back of the van. Another great design by the manufactures. A good night out on the bike, Trevor
