Hiya's ... I haven't managed to get on a bike quite yet... I just seem to be eating, drinking, partying and seeing the sites..... but have bought new pedals - so waiting on them to be delivered ( Thanks John) and then there will be nothing stopping me. Doing a fair bit of swimming though - the waves are really rough and I have a hard job staying above them ... Hopefully going to do a triathlon here - which will be a laugh ... as I lack talent ( in comparison to the Aussie's) but at least I'm enthuastic! Will keep yee posted .....

Hi everyone, hope you are all grand and smiling . I'm very excited - as I got employed today! .. yippeee.. teaching all the foreigners to speak in a broad Northern Ireland accent. Hobby wise - I've been out cycling for a wee jaunt on the beach road.. to be honest I spent more time looking round me and 'yaking' ( surprise surprise) so I wasn't going too fast. Had my first Oz Scooner of beer at the end as a reward. ( minging stuff- think I'll stick to wine)I've joined a life saving club and training for my Bronze Medallion. It means running around like an eejit at 6am.... a grumpy eejit ... but the craic is good, water is getting warmer and I'm meeting some nice lads and ladies... I'll be patrolling the beach once I pass my exam! (Me incharge of the safefty of the Austrailains ... hee hee) I'm hoping to do more cycling though .. missing my bike and my Lycra shorts and of course all the craic with the Dromara crew! Take care, keep smiling M

Dromara Members .........get yourself a cup of tea and then proceed to read - cos it a long one! Hi all, Hope everyone is grand and keeping well. It's great that the message board is so up to date - cos I love logging on and catching up on the craic!. Well done on the recent mountain / cyclo cross events . My mum has being keeping me up to date by sending me your news reports from the local rags. I'm grand, having a ball travelling ..... just back from Fiji and the Coup - have found a new hobby , which is diving , Had a blast doing my diving qualifications and loved getting up close and personal with the fish, sharks, and turtles - definitely think in a previous life I was a mermaid. Next stop is New Zealand - heading there with Mayo Pat in Jan for a few weeks - so looking forward to that. In regard to cycling - have deffo lost my cycling legs ... I did hire a bike, did a 90km charity event and wore the Dromara colours with pride.. unfortunately I wrecked my tyre, got 2 punctures (unlucky me ) and had to go to a cycle shop as I hadn't brought any tools with me ( dosey dora) I had planned to do lots of cycling ... but I wasn't having any fun cycling loads of miles by myself, no one to yack too!....... so gave that up. Instead I'm doing Open Water Long distance ( 2km +)swimming - although on my first ever one - I got badly stung across my face with a blue bottle jelly fish ( pain was excruciating) I had to be rescued by the life guards, I went into severe shock that the ambulance was called and I had to get Oxygen ..... but all OK now .... nasty animals jelly fish. My brothers and sister are now calling me ' Jelly Belly Maeve . I was more annoyed about not finishing the swim... What else.... I qualified as a life guard, the tough training was well worth it as the tides here are horrendous - previously to training I was getting seriously dumped in the waves and an Irish bloke drowned at my beach. Life guard training was challenging but good craic. I met loads of Ozzie's and we had a blast, was class when we were boarding - such an exhilarating feeling and now I'm much more confident swimming in the swell. I'm spending Xmas day on patrol on the beach - looking after the drunken Irish and then afterwards catching some mates for a BBQ . Just hope it's sunny cos at the moment it's raining! Glad everyone is in grand form and that you had a blast at the Christmas dinner....although it must have been tame as I haven't see any dodgy photos of people dancing. .. although Deek did mention you lot were doing the time warp as training- wish I was there to see that!.. hee hee I've enclosed a couple of photos, one is my life guard graduation ;D and the other is what to do with your bicycle saddles and some left over furniture , these sculptures cost $1,000+ Keep cycling, having fun and I wish everyone and their families a safe and relaxing Christmas and New Year . Enjoy the trail quest! May 2007 be a good one, injury and accident free on the bike. Maeve ;D www.abbots.org/misc/m2006-12/maevecahillnov-002.jpgwww.abbots.org/misc/m2006-12/maevecahillnov-055.jpg

Shock?? How do you think the poor jelly fish felt? Was this an excuse to get yourself a man Maeve?

Ho Ho Ho Think we are going to have a trophy for the most out there photo in the Damara colours. You have a year to enter. Remember, both shorts and jerseys, regardless of weather conditions have fun Maeve. If you are traveling up the west side let be know. Tyrone that worked in Carryduff cycles lives near Perth

Hiya .... sending you a huge hello ... cheers for keeping the notice board so up to date - I really apprecaite it. Sorry to hear so many are getting injured - I hope you make a speedy recovery.. delighted to hear everyone is getting involved and cycling loads... am SO jealous - me and my waist line are missing my bike .... will be back on the bike end of August .... and until I'm fully fit will be back cheering you lot on in your events ..... am looking forward to it... Have pasted below what I've been upto at the moment ..... it's another of those get a cup of tea and then read it!......
I'm back in the land of civilisation and hot showers for 3 days as in Broome so catching up on emails, mobile etc ............ Hope everyone is grand, smiling and healthy and that you all had a lovely Easter.... Life with me is fantastic .... living in a cattle station, Brooking Springs in the back of beyond.... many years ago it was a reef under water ..... ...... am working as a cook ( don't laugh! - I'm improved loads!.. no more noodles and tuna) Well .. the Cattle station is so remote we've no post box, Internet reception or mobile reception but it's class. My day starts at 5:15am I get up and make the lads ( 3 permanent staff and 5 local aboriginal lads brekkie - big fry up or steaks) .. then it's cleaning, gardening,. painting , cooking ,,,, and odd jobs till 10am - break time - smoke break and feed the boys again... then usually head out with the lads to do some 'cow girl' work ...... at the minute its mustering season ( rounding up the cattle) My cattle station is 500,000 acres big .. takes a day to drive from one side to the other ....... bloody massive - we've 10, 00 cattle ... i help the lads round them up on horse back, helicopter and 4x4 jeep - its class as we go flying through trees over bumps and chase the crazy things. On the helicopter you blow dust on the cattle to make them move .... ...the scenery round here is awesome , especially from the helicopter....big gorges and the creeks are flooded at mo - so plenty of crocs about... When we get the cattle in the yard we got to sort them out into wet cows, dry cows, steers, calves etc , then my job is to inject the cows - they hate it- and lash out and go mental .. one gave me a nasty kick/ bruise through the crush .... I help the local aboriginal lads with the calves , I brand them - you gotta burn a mark on their rump, ear tag and ear pierce them ... the boy calves have to be de - balled ... which are a delicacy cooked by the aboriginal lads- they cook them on the branding machine .. add a bit of salt - tastes like chicken (well I'm travelling so i got to do try everything once!) I then make lunch for the lads at 1pm,,, more mustering or helping with machinery work - have learnt to drive a loader, excavator - the huge caterpillar machine with track wheels ... make dinner for 6pm, tidy up,, Tv for an hour and then bed at 8:00pm ..... always shattered zzzzzzzzzz they have awesome sun sets and night skys here.. My cooking skills have improved - I'm a domestic goddess can make pies, curries .. anything with BEEF.. the boys say I'm more a domestic space cadet! .. we kill our own stock here .. i watched them shoot a cow and then I got to help skin it and cut it up ..... had the best steak an hour later ( have not turned veggie yet) There are lots of poisonous animals round the station , got to carry a torch all the time . .... dingos and kangaroos roam outside... before we go to the loo we got to check under the seat as snakes and frogs lurk there and you deffo don't want them nipping you..... there was a 2metre carpet snake there last week - i screamed and Ned had to come and kill it ..... there is loads of bugs - huge things the size of your hand ... we've got a Goanna , big lizard which keeps the frogs and snakes at bay ... When mustering sometimes the baby calves get separated from their mums .... I found a calf 3 days ago in the bush - a scrawny ginger thing - a sack of bones .. so I've taken it home and bottle feeding it .. the lads didn't think it would live ...but so far its taking milk .. fingers crossed... it follows me around, head butts me when it wants food as that is that it would do when in the wild. The lads I work with are real cowboys .... they let me muck in and help them do their jobs ..... taught me how to fix fences traditional style, to pull machinery out of creeks, cattle work and taught me all about the land ..... they are hard workers like me, we work dawn to dusk and then have a well deserved pints in the local village pub about 1hour away........ they delighted to have me as I drive them everywhere ...... planning to stay here for another month or so .. I am loving travelling, especially the cattle station - have learnt so much .... head to Ayers rock and then back to Sydney to see the family before I head home via Hong Kong......... will be back end of August. I am looking forward to catching up with everyone then..... am loving travelling - but nothing beats home, family and friends ( and I'm missing my bike :-) ) I really hope everyone is in good form - keep training hard and smiling Maeve
