Saturday: Ronnie, Peter J, Anne, Trek Stephen, Welsh John and I headed to Bangor Coastal. It was a good spin out with 800 cyclists. Nice big bunches bunches were forming and we were able to get into great groups and stay on the wheels . Great chat on bike...... On the way back Ronnie, Ards blokes and Welsh John were cycling really, really fast ......... zoom ... zoom 64 miles done Sunday : Where were all the cyclists? ?? - obviously most of you did the sensible option and rolled back to get some sleep when yee saw the torrential rain! .. Anyway...... 3 of us headed out from Dromara - John, Killyleagh Peter and I . We headed up Dree Hill, into Castlewellan - great food stop Hillyard House at gates to the forest park - definitely recommend it - lots of tea and scones with cream and jam for £ 1.50 ... it was yummy :-) Then into Newcastle and on the road home. 44 miles round trip Hope everyone had a lovely weekend ..... the Dromara shorts are fab !!!... and they were noticed and admired in Bangor

I went to Tievenadarragh on my own. Best place to be a day like today as you hardly notice the rain in there.

You should have said you were going up to Bangor Coastal. I would have gone. As it was Mr Bell was out on his lonesome in the Dromara hills. Boo hoo nobody loves me ... well I suppose my dog and my mother do.

I mentioned it to a couple of people on Thurs at race- lack of breath and pain must have stopped me from saying to you! Wasn't an organised thing. I was doing it with a couple of friends I did the hilly with last year. One of whom has a Specialised Tarmac-cables run the same way as yours do. He isn't convinced its right but hasn't had any problems because of it.
Nice day on Sunday. Yes John would hate to see how fast you go when 100% healthy! He, Ronnie and co were haulin!!

On the matter of the cables I was in McConveys leaving my bike on Friday. When I asked the guy about the set up he said that it was correct. He said he first saw bikes set up like this 10 years ago (mtb initially) and he has been setting his own up like this ever since. He claims that you get no cable issues. He says it is standard for specialized. I guess we'll see how we go.

Like Maeves bike was meant to be sized for her. or ask John Ruddell for his experience. Warranty is a swear word in that shop

Ive never seen simple mechanical mistakes like those I've seen on bikes fixed at McConveys. Get a second opinion on any advice or work from this shop... And just to get back to the thread. In world cup parlance .... Saturday top banana, Sunday sick as a parrot

I checked the specialized site and in the FAQ found the following:
Crossed shifter cables Question Why are the cables on the downtube of my bike crossed? Shouldn't they be routed parallel?
Answer Cables are usually crossed in front and behind the head tube to provide the straightest line to ensure the cleanest, smoothest shifting possible. This type of routing also helps minimize damage to the paint in the headtube due to constant pressure and abrasion by the cable housing. The second cross under the down tube to puts the cables back in alignment with their respective derailleurs.

It seems wrong to cross over the cables to me but I can see why it may give cleaner lines at the head tube.
It would seem that crossing the gear cables twice suits some frames better than others. If the cable stops are at the head tube, then its ok but if the cable stops are high up on the down tibe then there is not a clean line to the opposite side of underneath the bottom bracket. This is the case on my bike and the cables would rub around the frame at the underside of the down tube.
The main benefit of crossing the cables is perhaps to avoid rubbing the paint off the frame. Probably the best way of acheiving this is to use 2 rubber grommets on each cable. I have a bag of these if anyone wants any.
