A warm night at 15C as six of us, Stewart, Dennis, Jonathan, Alan, Pete and Stephen headed off for our fix on the towpath.

Martin arrived in inappropriate clothing for the event to let us know he was chickening out again for the third week and just as we were about to head of Colin arrived without his bike as he wasn’t sure if we were going after all the heavy rain of the day ;D

The run down to the bridge at Edenderry was usual with a brisk pace, having to slow a few times for walkers out for a stroll given the mild evening. We decided to leave out Giants Ring as it would have been a mud bath with the earlier rain and head straight towards Belvoir Forest. We all got swiftly up the sharp climb and descended down and out into the open ready for the drag back into the forest and toward the sharp hill towards the light into the car park. Dennis must have took a swig of Red Bull shortly before and sprinted past all of us to try and blitz Alan to the top, brotherly Love ;)

We headed back into the forest again for the loop and the dreaded hiss hiss hisss hisss hisssss noise sounded from Dennis's bike and it was all stop for a repair. Jonathan stayed with him to fix it and the rest of us continued on doing the loop, beginning by going the wrong way after having lost our bearings on stopping, secretly we all blamed Alan on this ;)

We all grouped up in the car park and headed toward Cutters to do Lagan Meadows before deciding due to the wet weather to abort this idea and head to the Waterfront instead. I forgot how pretty it is with the shimmering reflections off the water at night, the smell of food and garlic from a nearby restaurant just topped off a really nice run around the area.

The run back was brisk with some sharp wind gusts down the Lagan to slow us down and keep us in check. Once on the tow path “Pedals Pete” got to the front and all the conversation stopped in the group as we all gasped to get the oxygen to keep up him. After a few miles Dennis got to the front and slowed the pace down a bit as the group was starting to open up and then it was the usual burst of speed by Dennis at Ballyskeagh Bridge with Jonathan hurting, trying to keep up. Alan and Pedals Pete took this opportunity and zipped past with me on Alan’s wheel trying not to get dropped. I slowed up at Coke and regrouped with Dennis and the rest of the guys, Dennis and I then pushed on hard in a challenge to try and catch Alan and Pedals but it was pointless and after riding at 25mph for several hundred yards we gave up and reckoned their lead was too great :P

All back to base safe and tired with a spray tan of mud all over with 29.5 miles done at 13.5mph avg. Another brilliant, brilliant run. Roll on next week.

Stewart.
